R8 Gordini / Vince Troth Australia

Hi gentlemen. (Jukka, you may rememeber helping me out some time ago with some scanned information from your R8G workshop manual). There are very few R8's competing in motorsport in Australia, and I'm having so much fun with this one I thought I should share. Whilst the car looks like an R1135 R8G, and includes original parts, it's not a genuine R1135. It was first built around 1979 from a combination of genuine R1135 parts from a damaged rally car, a good shell, and a large amount of good old Aussie ingenuity. It is the sister car to the Billiards R8G...two friends having built or modified the cars around 1979...and it's great that they both still survive. It was extensively rebuilt about 5 years ago by the previous owner, and this is the second time I've owned the car. I could not resist buying it back. It attracts a lot of attention, and as you might expect is quite different from the average car seen in historic motorsport in Western Australia. Specification wise the car has: Engine - 1565cc R16TS, extensively rebuilt and modified with R17G parts, forged pistons, high lift cam, 2 x 45DCOE Webers, baffled sump etc. On the rolling road dyno it makes 110bhp at 7,000rpm, or has approx 140bhp at the flywheel. Gearbox - R10S with stronger and wider ratio R16 internals, standard R16TS clutch which copes fine, and the driveshafts are upgraded with 6 cylinder Holden universal joints! Suspension - 4 shock rear with Gordini spec Koni's all round, and lowered coils Radiator and fuel tank are custom and relocated to the front Brakes - R12 rotors with R16 calipers and competition pads Wheels and Tyres - 13x6 Cosmics with Dunlop Formula R tyres. Interior - stripped with a half cage, helmet box, 2 x competition seats and is wired for Halda and intercom. The shell is lightened wherever possible. Weight - 720kg wet on the weigh bridge (great power to weight with 140bhp) I hope you enjoy the pictures and information. If you decide to include the vehicle on your site I'll forward some action shots later. Whilst not a genuine R1135 this car is very fast and strong, and is surely the next best thing. Besides, finding a good Gordini in Australia is a difficult task. Cheers Vince Troth R8 Historic Rally Car Perth Western Australia
