R8 dragracer of Ville Haaga

thought I'd send some text and pictures about my new hobby: dragracing with my R8. The car is registered for road use, so I race in the street cup, class Street/B, for turbos under 4 liters. My friends kept persuading me to try dragracing, so I took part in a race with them. And I was hooked. Last summer (2000 season) I raced for real for the first time, and did quite well right from the beginning. I finished within top 5 in every race I took part in. Once I was second, once third. After the points were added, my consistent performance had brought me these final standings: 2nd place in the Wasa Street Cup and 4th in the West Coast Street Cup. I bet you can't imagine how astonished people are to see a Renault 8 dragracing! When they first see the car I hear pejorative statements like: "What on earth is that thing doing here?" After the first start, they usually come to me asking: "What on earth have you done with your car!?" The feedback's been great and I'm looking forward to competing for many years to come. Other competitors have been astonished as well, wondering how I can be competitive with such an odd car. But with a well set-up suspension and enough power even an old Renault goes flying!
