R8 Gordinis of Paul Silva

Hi My name is Paul Silva and I live in Vancouver, B.C. Canada

Good work on your web page. Your request for new faces for your web site prompted me to send you some of my cars picture

I own 3 R8 Gordini The first "G" - This car I have owned since 1989 and just finished restoring it totally for the second time, I finished it on June 15, 200

Unfortunately I got rear ended and pushed into another car 4 weeks ago. I am in the process of repairing it no

It's a 1970 1135 with the 5 speed and a 1296 cc kit, but I am not using the 1296 cc Renault cam. I and using a modified ca

The profile was used by a lot of racing teams and works very well. I can floor it on 5th gear at 1700 rpm and it will not buck or gasp, and will pull all the way past 8000 rpm. It really performs wel

The second "G" - It's a 1968 1135 that I race in slaloms and hill climbs.

Unfortunately the last owners blew the 1296 cc it had and instead the R18 engine on it. It has the R18 1647cc block, pistons and bottom end and R17G head, coupled to a 4 speed R8 transmission.

This car has a long racing history here (with the 1296 cc). It has been raced since 1968, and won numerous races. I'm not used to the 1647cc engine, and the fact that I am not using the R17G connecting rods has contributed to various rod bearing failures (only rod failures 3 so far).

Also the fact that I am used to the 8000 rpm of my 1296 cc Gordini, means that I have pushed the 1647cc engine way beyond its limit (maybe 7000 - 7200 rpm) I probably not rev it past 6000 - 6500 rpm

When you are racing and there is no rev limiter, its easy to do, but before you know it the engine is knocking, and your weekend ruined.

I don't like the 1647 engine. It may have more bottom end torque, but its doesn't have the spirit of the 1255 or 1296 cc engine. I think I will will build a 1296 cc for it.

The third "G" - I just bought recently. It also used to be raced, but I don't have a lot of history on it yet. It's a 1970 1135 with the 1255 cc engine and 5 speed. No pictures yet, I will send you some next time. Thank you -- Visit me at: E-Mail pjsilva@telus.net Thank you Paul Silva
